Looking for more harmony in your interior? Feng Shui may be the answer. This ancient art highlights certain design rules for a more serene environment , with the primary goal of finding a point of balance and serenity, creating a living space focused on well-being.
Frederica spoke with Anne-Sophie Tellier, designer and founder of SLO Feng Shui , a recently launched project in Portugal, built with a more therapeutic and spiritual approach to this Eastern knowledge. Discover how to elevate your space in the interview below.
What sparked your interest and commitment to Feng Shui ?
With a degree in Interior Design , I've always enjoyed working with homes, decor, and objects. I started several interior design projects, but quickly felt I wanted to give them more meaning and depth. We have a very intimate relationship with our homes; they reflect who we are. We could say that our homes tell our story.
There are different styles of Feng Shui. How would you describe yours?
There are different traditional schools of Feng Shui . I've studied them all! I have a very comprehensive approach, but above all, it's contemporary and spiritual. I like to practice modern Feng Shui , adapted to each individual's needs, with solutions tailored to individual lifestyles, contemporary decor, beauty, and responsible consumption, but also a therapeutic Feng Shui that's more intimate and profound.
Do practices of this nature depend on an already established individual spirituality?
My approach to interior design is holistic; I'm not an aesthetician or a physicist, but to understand or apply Feng Shui principles in your home or office, the client doesn't necessarily need to have a pre-established spirituality. I adapt to all types of people and needs.
Are there rules or taboos in Feng Shui (things we should always/never do)?
I'm doing intimate Feng Shui , adapted to each person or family, but there are also basic rules that we can all apply:
1. Taking care of the house;
2. Clean, tidy and ventilate the house regularly;
3. Do not obstruct the entrance;
4. Do not place mirrors in the bedroom;
5. Use a headboard for more support;
6. Do not place dried flowers or cacti (prefer fresh flowers and plants with rounded leaves in good health);
7. Avoid symbols or images of loneliness, sadness, aggression or poverty;
8. Avoid masks, which materialize hidden things;
9. Avoid representations of death, such as trophies or dead animals;
10. Do not sleep facing the door or with a toilet behind your head.
How would you implement Feng Shui in an office (at home or at work)? Can we stimulate our creativity through this art?
We all have a place and a favorable orientation to optimize our work capacity. But it always has to be a clean, tidy, and comfortable place. I have five tips for a healthier work environment:
Do not work in the bedroom , so as not to mix the couple's energies with the energies of work;
Do not work facing a wall , to have vision and projection at work;
Always watch the door , so as not to be surprised;
Use good lighting or natural light if possible;
Always tidy the office.
Feng Shui allows us to bring a new perspective to workspaces. In addition to the well-being it provides, it also improves productivity, concentration, vision, and creativity.
In general, what would change about the way we treat our homes and use our personal space?
The basic principle of Feng Shui is to understand that the home is a reflection of who we are, reflecting our inner being. Therefore, taking care of the home is, in fact, taking care of yourself.
Can you reveal to us some of the most important guidelines for using Feng Shui in order to improve our prosperity?
The southeast of our home or workplace corresponds to the wealth sector. To improve our prosperity, it's important to place symbols of abundance, such as generous plants, in the southeast.
How far can Feng Shui take us on the path to inner peace?
The goal of Feng Shui expertise is to help us change or improve the energy of our home, open our awareness of certain blockages, and provide energetic adjustments to create a new, lighter, more harmonious life dynamic.
Currently, the SLO Feng Shui project offers comprehensive consulting services (a psycho-emotional reading of a home or office to transform the space's energy), holistic coaching (an approach based on the core principles of Feng Shui to improve the energy of a space), and assistance in choosing the right location for a business.
