Coloring Mandalas: A Mindfulness Practice

We are women, friends, sisters, cousins, daughters, mothers, girlfriends, wives. We are everything and more, always rushing from one thing to the next, doing one task while already thinking about the next. Our daily lives are incredibly challenging, and sometimes, caring for our mental well-being takes a back seat.

Despite all the information we have regarding the benefits of practicing mindfulness, we don't always know how to practice it. Nowadays, there are countless ways to practice mindfulness, from a simple task like brushing your teeth to breathing in and out. However, none of these practices are as stimulating as drawing.

Whenever you get home after a long day, turn off your phone, put the TV away, and stay away from stress. Go to the bookshelf, grab a coloring book and pencils, and surrender to the moment. Before you know it, you'll be in another universe where peace and harmony reign.

This therapy has several advantages, such as:

  • Brain disconnection: By coloring, we're engaging both the logical and creative parts of our brain. This way, we disconnect from thoughts and emotions.
  • We give wings to our creativity: spending our time on activities that give us pleasure helps to increase our creativity, especially when we are coloring a drawing;
  • We do an activity for pure pleasure: with our extremely challenging daily lives, we rarely stop to think about how often we take a little time just to do something we enjoy. Maybe coloring isn't an activity that you enjoy and relax with.

Our mental health is just as important as our physical health. Even if you have an extremely busy life, never forget to dedicate at least one hour a day entirely to yourself. Dedicating time to yourself and enjoying your own company isn't selfish; it's self-love.
